Defining Truth

MIXED MEDIA / 2002-2004

The search for the truth in life, for me, has always been an obsession. In my twenties, I spent much time in India, taking on a guru, minoring in philosophy in college, and reading endless books on theories, like quantum physic’s string or M theory.

I approached this body of work using the figure as the truth searcher, juxtaposing the figure with imagery that illustrate an idea. For example, in the work “All the Bees” I create a symbolic representation of the M theory: The idea that the absolute exists around us, but we can experience only our immediate presentation of life around us. We are wholly unaware of the other dimensions that exist concurrently.

In the work “King Me,” I was inspired by the writings of Ludwig Wittgenstein, who parallels the idea of defined truths with games that bear explicit rules common to all the players.

My conclusion? It is not the rules of the game that is our common truth. It is the game.
