Gathering Together

We as humans are drawn toward each other; social, needy, craving. Yet, this togetherness is often the thing we fear the most. Pull. Push. Pull again. Push away.

In this collection I look at both the individual and collective psyche. The works are varied, like humans themselves: there are mixed-media paintings, sculpture, and installations. This is about human nature, but there we go again: Human nature. Human. Nature. Together yet separate. But it remains human nature to gather together. I look at that deep desire through a series of mostly narrative imagery that combines faceless figures, birds, threads, chairs and emotional dreamlike scenes.

Do the chairs represent what is comfortable for us? Are the threads an illusion to the connectivity and human destiny? Are the birds symbolic of what we garner? Are the faceless figures an attempt to distinguish the universality of human nature?

These are some of the questions I ask in works that are quietly contemplative, intellectually charged, symbolic, and (as always) playful.
